Survey on the state of volunteerism in Prescott-Russell
In the winter of 2025, we polled more than 50 non-profit organizations to assess our region’s current situation on volunteerism. We will use the results of the survey to create a round table on volunteerism for the Prescott-Russell region.

Regional round table on volunteerism
The aim of the table is to get non-profit representatives together to address issues surrounding volunteerism. Sharing ideas and resources could help us all in revitalizing community participation.
The first meeting of the round table was held on March 17, 2025 in Hawkesbury and via videoconference.
The second round table meeting will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025 in person in Alfred.

Police Record Checks
Does your non-profit organization request a police record check from your volunteers as part of your screening process? Follow these steps.
As an organization, you have to give a letter to your potential volunteer so they may include it with their police record check application. Your letter must:
- Be on your organization letterhead
- Dated
- Have the applicant's legal name
- Indicate that the position is a volunteer position
- Include details about the role
- The type of record check requested
- Be signed by an authorized person from your organization
The potential volunteer is responsible for making the online application. There are no fees when asking for a record check for a volunteer.
Note: only individuals aged 18 and older may ask for a vulnerable sector check.
There are three types of police record checks.
- Level 1 - Criminal Record Check (CR)
- Level 2 - Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJM)
- Level 3 - Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)
For more information on the three levels, visit the Ontario website Police record checks.
